KENT, Ohio - Jaylin Walker scored a season-high 26 points and Adonis De La Rosa eclipsed career highs with 24 points and 14 rebounds as Kent State opened its home Mid-American Conference schedule with an 85-69 win over Central Michigan on Saturday at the M.A.C. Center.

Walker and De La Rosa led a quartet of Golden Flashes scoring in double-figures as Kevin Zabo added 17 points and Jalen Avery scored 12 in KSU's wire-to-wire victory.

The Flashes (7-8, 1-1) shot 49-percent from the field and 42-percent from the three-point line against a Chippewas team that entered the game with the best scoring defense in the MAC, allowing just 64 points per night. A blistering 60-percent (18-for-30) from the field in the first half helped KSU take a 46-30 lead into the break.

"As happy as I am with how we played on the offensive end, it all started tonight with our defense," said Kent State head coach Rob Senderoff.

KSU held Central Michigan's top scorer Cecil Williams to just four points - 11 below his season average. Williams also finished with five turnovers and no assists before fouling out after 24 minutes. As a team, the Chippewas shot just 38 percent from the field and 35 percent from the three-point arc.

Central Michigan cut the Kent State lead to just eight points with 10 minutes to play before free throws by De La Rosa and threes by Walker and Avery ignited a run that allowed the Flashes to pull away.

After the four in double-digits, the only KSU players to score on Saturday were BJ Duling and Mitch Peterson with three points each. The win was still very much a team effort as Duling contributed seven rebounds off the bench and Danny Pippen blocked two shots and ended a key CMU possession by lunging for a loose-ball rebound while the Chippewas threatening to pull within eight points of the Kent State lead.

The Flashes are on the road Tuesday at Miami before returning home Friday night at 7 p.m. to face Ohio
